Back and Forth

Back and forth, back and forth,
Between hearts of warmth and darkness.
Back and forth, back and forth,
Between times of bliss and hardness.

Back and forth, back and forth,
Will one side ever win?
Back and forth, back and forth,
When will one give in?

Back and forth, back and forth,
Will one stand and the other fall?
Back and forth, back and forth,
Or will the hearts join as one...

...and forget the stupid ball?

***
Footnote:

The last line may sound corny, but listen to the take-home message: Love is not a competition between two hearts; it is the challenge of working together and accepting each other's faults in order to make life happy between both of them. Life may be a game, but love is not.

Trying So Hard

Trying so hard,
Yet left with nothing.
Hearts seem warm,
Then turn out bluffing.

Trying so hard,
When faith has failed.
Eyes were full,
But time prevailed.

Trying so hard,
It's plain to see,
That hearts are not
What they seem to be.

Trying so hard,
To find a heart
That will hold me close,
From the start.

Mists

In a time of confusion,

With mists of illusion,

I’m lost in a cloud of doubt.

Unsure of what to feel,

Unsure if any of it is real,

Living a life that’s inside-out.

My heart is confused,

Torn and abused,

But still holding on.

It may be naïve,

But I do still believe,

That there is hope of a coming dawn.

Waiting for an eternity,

In a haze of uncertainty,

I see you through the clouds.

We all know that love is not a game,

But the question still remains the same:

Can you see me through the shrouds?

Time Goes On

A hand atop a hollow chest

Only a smile, with a nod at best.

Life goes on, unimpressed,

As broken hearts come to rest.

Time goes on, as you shall see.

There's love and pain, to some degree.

Scars need soothing, so lean on me.

The pain will pass, I guarantee.

I see your pain through your smile.

Life's not easy, but worth the while.

It can be harsh, it can be guile,

But think of pain as just a trial.

Come on, now, let's not pretend;

Our hearts are what we must defend.

So let us live and let love mend

All our scars until the end.

Broken Heart

A broken heart,
Falls to darkness, never meant to mend.
A broken heart,
Gone to despair, has already met its end.

A broken heart,
Such a waste, for all the love it gave.
A broken heart,
With such potential, took it all to its grave.

A time of sadness,
Without end, plagues the mind and soul.
A time of sadness,
With no pity, gladly collects its toll.

Two to start, one to finish,
And one never again will rise.
Two to start, one to finish,
Love is just despair in disguise.

Living on the Sidelines

I’m sitting here in the sidelines
watching people go by.
Some being friends, others not,
but people are people;
we all live day to day.

It’s hard to believe something you don’t posses
can hold you back; whatever it is, it’s not there
so how could it hurt?

The truth is,
it does.

From the shadows, I watch people pass,
be them friends or strangers.
They smile and laugh
while I do the same,
but no one can hear me.

Some friends wave goodbye to others, wondering where I am.
I give a smile and a silent nod that they cannot see, as they drift away into the distance,
moving on, moving forward.

I see two lovers nearby, looking at each other
like there’s no tomorrow,
their eyes saying more than a mouth ever could.

Everything makes sense from a distance,
from the sidelines.
As I watch from the darkness,
the sidelines no one can see,
people move on by, living their lives day by day,
while I live the same one over and over again.

I see a pair of newly-weds in the distance.
Two hearts joined into one.
A sweet sight to see, really.
The bride and groom smile for pictures
and they laugh at how much their cheeks hurt but don't care at all.

I hope someday I could be like them,
Living with laughter, comfort, sincerity.
And live another day, with a different storyline,
One that I could not tell in my sleep.

I could be like them by being out of the shadows,
out of the darkness.
Out of the sidelinesinto the light of understanding.
