I’m sitting here in the sidelines
watching people go by.
Some being friends, others not,
but people are people;
we all live day to day.
It’s hard to believe something you don’t posses
can hold you back; whatever it is, it’s not there
so how could it hurt?
The truth is,
it does.
From the shadows, I watch people pass,
be them friends or strangers.
They smile and laugh
while I do the same,
but no one can hear me.
Some friends wave goodbye to others, wondering where I am.
I give a smile and a silent nod that they cannot see, as they drift away into the distance,
moving on, moving forward.
I see two lovers nearby, looking at each other
like there’s no tomorrow,
their eyes saying more than a mouth ever could.
Everything makes sense from a distance,
from the sidelines.
As I watch from the darkness,
the sidelines no one can see,
people move on by, living their lives day by day,
while I live the same one over and over again.
I see a pair of newly-weds in the distance.
Two hearts joined into one.
A sweet sight to see, really.
The bride and groom smile for pictures
and they laugh at how much their cheeks hurt but don't care at all.
I hope someday I could be like them,
Living with laughter, comfort, sincerity.
And live another day, with a different storyline,
One that I could not tell in my sleep.
I could be like them by being out of the shadows,
out of the darkness.
Out of the sidelinesinto the light of understanding.
